regarding the long saga around on-street parking near to Bury Football Ground in Gigg Lane. I understand that residents are unhappy about fans parking for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.
These residents should consider themselves lucky. My family moved into our house in Chesham Road some 10 years ago. At the time the premises opposite (Beech Grove) was a rehabilitation unit for stroke victims and others. There was little or no traffic problem.
Since that time the premises have been converted into Social Services offices. At the time of alteration and as part of its change of use application, Social Services promised to build a car park for its workforce.
Every weekday we now have cars parked on both sides of Chesham Road and Danesmoor Drive from 8am to 5pm. The drivers of these vehicles park on roads and footpaths alike, often blocking access to residents’ off street parking areas.
Add to this the fact that there is a primary school situated at the end of Danesmoor Drive, I am sure you can imagine the chaos at school opening and closing times.
I don’t expect any relief to this problem, I suspect the promise to build a car park was just to keep the locals happy. We have asked the authorities to put parking restrictions in place, to no avail. I suppose we will have to wait for a serious or fatal injury accident to occur before the authorities act.
It was so peaceful when we first moved here, now thanks to Bury MBC we live within a congested car park. I think I might move near to Bury Football ground and hope the council doesn’t take that over! David Louth Bury
