AN ex-serviceman from Radcliffe and his girlfriend beat up and humiliated a woman on her birthday, a court heard.

Thomas Judge, aged 21, slapped, kicked and urinated on the 53-year-old victim before stealing her handbag on May 26.

His girlfriend Victoria Gill, aged 21, had earlier led a gang of women who shrieked abuse at the woman, threw bottles at her, dragged her to the ground by her hair and kicked and punched her.

Judge, of Lichfield Road, Radcliffe, was jailed for 12 months for assault, theft, drink-driving and having no insurance at Manchester Crown Court.

Gill, of Guildford Grove, Middleton, received a 12-month supervision order and 90 hours’ unpaid work for assault and handling stolen goods.

Judge Michael Henshell told the pair the public would be ‘sickened’ and ‘horrified’ by their actions.

The court heard the victim turned 53 on the day of the attack.

Her celebrations turned sour when she met a friend who had been attacked on St Andrew’s Street in Manchester.

The woman said she had been slapped by a man who got out of a car. Moments later, the 53-year-old was attacked on Fairfield Street.

The gang of women including Gill, who had been drinking, got out of the car and shrieked abuse at her before beating her up.

Judge slapped and kicked the victim before urinating on her while the women laughed and shouted ‘kill the bitch’.

The mob walked off before Judge, who had spent two years in the Army, returned and snatched the woman’s handbag.

The pair, who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing, were told by Judge Henshell: “The degradation the lady suffered would have been very considerable indeed.”

Gill, a telesales worker, wept as she was sentenced. She was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to her victim.
