A DRIVER had to be cut out of his car after it crashed into a shop in Tottington last night.
The man, thought to be in his 30s, suffered multiple injuries when the vehicle veered off Market Street at about 11.30pm.
Firefighters had to use their special cutting equipment to remove the man from the Ford pick-up after it collided with Motorscreen Vehicle Glass Replacements opposite the library.
The driver was taken to Fairfield hospital with multiple injuries.
Two passengers were rescued by passers-by but left the scene before firefighters arrived.
Market Street was closed both ways after Sunny Bower Street for several hours.
Watch commander Pete Fletcher, from Bury Fire Station, said: “The car had gone into a wall facing the town hall and library and mounted the curb, taking out the bollards and embedding itself into the shop wall.
“We had to use hydraulic cutting equipment and remove some panels from the car to gain access to the driver who was trapped. We put him onto a spine board and he was taken to hospital.”
Firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
Police are now investigating and anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
