FISH, chips and sticks of rock were the order of the day for care home staff from Bury who enjoyed a ‘vintage’ day at the seaside.

To thank staff for their hard work Lynn Parsons, owner of two residential homes — Elizabeth House in Walshaw Road and Moorfields in Tottington Road — arranged for a vintage bus to take them to Blackpool.

In a trip paid for by tourist organisition visitBlackpool, seven workers took the day off, joined by five of their younger relatives for an afternoon of fun.

They toured the tower, the promenade and the piers and even enjoyed a circus performance before making their way home.

Elizabeth House senior careworker Kay Roddie, aged 46, said: “It has been years since I last went to Blackpool and it was even better than I remember it as a child.

“We spent most of the time in the tower. The circus was excellent. We are really grateful to Lynn for giving us this surprise. Not many bosses would do it.”

Mrs Parsons said: “My staff are second to none and I appreciate all they do to keep the homes running smoothly every day. Because they all work so hard, some of us were more than happy to stay and look after our residents while the others had fun at the seaside.”
