A VINTAGE car extravaganza attracted scores of visitors to the East Lancashire Railway on Sunday.

People travelled from far and wide to see more than 30 old cars and buses on display at the Bolton Street Station in Bury.

Among the vehicles on show were a 1960s Leyland bus, a MGA Roadster, a 1934 Rolls Royce and a 1935 Riley Imp.

Stephen Holt, station commander at Heywood Railway Station, has been organising the event for the last five years.

He said: “We had two buses; one from Stoke-on-Trent and one from St Helens, and 16 of the vehicles came from the Manchester Historic Car Club.

“It was well attended, with visitors from as far away as the West Midlands. Passengers got off the train to look and they were very impressed, and those from the Manchester club said they would love to come again.”

It was the last time Mr Holt will organise the event and he hopes someone else will take on the challenge.

He added: “It has been good to see a lot of different vehicles from years gone by and passengers have really enjoyed it.”
