ACTIVE dads were cheered on by their proud children at a football tournament at Radcliffe Borough FC.

The friendly but competitive five-a-side tournament was held on Sunday.

The competition, featuring eight teams, was split into two leagues, with the best four playing for the “Premiership” and the other teams competing for the “Championship”.

Dads from Sedgley children’s centre took the Premiership crown and a team from Daisyfield children’s centre were victorious in the Championship.

They will represent Bury in the Truce Football Festival, which is being held in Rochdale on Sunday, where they will play against other community teams from the region.

Other teams taking part came from Redvales, Hoyles and Butterstile children’s centres, as well as from the Back to Football programme, Bury Exercise and Therapy Scheme, and a community team from Radcliffe called Hi-5.

The day also included a free pasta lunch, a bouncy castle and face painting.

It proved to be such a success that organisers from Bury Council’s sports development team hope to hold another five-a-side tournament before Christmas.
