A HOUSE in Bury has been raided in connection with a crime gang’s alleged £6 million tax con.
At dawn on September 10, police arrested a man at an address in Bury as well as 22 other people across the country who are suspected of setting up bogus building companies.
The others were arrested in the West Midlands, Staffordshire, London and Manchester.
They were all questioned and bailed until January, 2010.
They are accused of setting up building firms, finishing construction jobs and then fleeing without paying tax to the Government or benefits to their employees.
An HM Revenue and Customers spokeswoman said: “Our inquiry is at an early stage so we cannot release further details about those who were arrested.
“This conspiracy by a number of contractors is believed to have resulted in the theft of over £6 million from the public purse, depriving vital public services of much-needed investment.”
