MAY I express our thanks to the Castle Leisure Centre management for reconsidering and rejecting a proposal to alter the time of their “Over 50s group” on a Friday.

It had been proposed to alter the Friday session from 9.45am to noon, to an earlier session of 9am to 11am, to accommodate a new booking.

This might not seem to be much of a problem to some administrators, but older members of society dislike any change from well established routines. This particular facility of multiple sports has endured for decades, and must be one of the best for this age group, and is a credit to Castle Leisure Centre.

Some patrons would have been inflicted upon the rush hour traffic, some would have forfeited the early use of their bus pass, others would prejudice their shifts at charity shops, a few grandchildren minders might also suffer.

This “Over 50s” activity group, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, provides a most valuable and long lived service to we “wrinklies”. I myself have benefited from the activities for more than 25 years, since I was 50.

Well done Bury.
