THE sky’s the limit for three Radcliffe girls chosen to represent Great Britain in the World Trampoline Championships.
Sisters Nicole and Natasha Short, together with Sasha Carter, will travel to St Petersburg in Russia in November to take part in the prestigious event.
The teenagers have to raise £1,900 each to meet travel expenses and are fundraising as well as seeking financial support from the public.
Nicole, aged 15, and 16-year-old Sasha will compete in the 15-16 group, making up half the four-strong squad for that age section. And 13-year-old Natasha will compete in the 13-14 category.
The sisters’ selection has delighted their proud mother, Mrs June Short, who for the past 25 years has run the Bury Trampoline Club which meets at Castle Leisure Centre. It is a thriving club with 70 members.
Mrs Short, of Bury Road, Radcliffe, said: “My two daughters are members of the City of Liverpool Trampoline Club and go there five times a week to train. Unfortunately, they can’t achieve the same level of training at the Bury club.”
Nicole and Natasha, who both attend Philips High School in Whitefield, took up the sport after getting involved in artistic gymnastics before deciding to specialise in trampolining.
The sisters also represented their country in the last World Championships staged in Canada two years ago.
Making up the hat-trick of Radcliffe representation is Sasha, of Boundary Drive, who attends Withington Girls School. She too competed in the 2007 World Championships and has represented GB and England on several occasions.
Sasha said: “I’ve been involved in the sport for the last eight years. I used to do gymnastics before later concentrating fully on trampolining.”
Sasha has already received £150 from Bradley Fold-based health and safety company Keating’s plus other contributions from family and friends towards her travel costs. But she still needs to raise £1,000.
Sasha is also a member of the City of Salford Trampoline Club and is hoping to win more financial support. To help, write to her c/o the City of Salford Trampoline Club, Devonshire Street, Higher Broughton, or call the club on 0161 792 5969.
