IS Cheryl Sale Radcliffe’s kindest woman?

Relatives, colleagues and even total strangers think so — and it’s all down to the 31-year-old’s generosity.

Cheryl, a risk assessor, was walking through Bolton last month when she spotted disabled pensioner Chris Dickinson struggling to walk.

Not only did she help him cross the road, she also returned two days later to offer more help — by buying him a mobility scooter.

But, in an act of modesty, Cheryl did not reveal her full name to Mr Dickinson, aged 62, of Halliwell.

Relatives were so determined to ensure her act of kindness did not go unrewarded, they contacted the Radcliffe Times to reveal it was her.

Her uncle, Ken Sayle, said: “Cheryl has a heart of gold and would give her last pound to someone more needy of it.

“She deserves recognition for this extreme act of kindness.”

He added: “My wife, Ann, died of breast cancer in January and Cheryl has been a rock for me since then, taking me out and visiting me regularly.

“She has really helped get me through what has been the worst time of my life.”

Mr Dickinson, who had an emotional reunion with Cheryl at Barristers pub in Churchgate, said: “I can’t thank her enough for what she has done.

“The scooter has given me my freedom back. She has changed my life.”

Cheryl, of Water Street, Radcliffe, who also volunteers for The Shark Trust, said: “I think anyone would have done the same.

“I saw him struggling to walk, so I offered to help him across the road.

“He had obviously had walking problems before because he had cuts where he had fallen. It just stuck in my mind and made me worry, so I wanted to help.

“I am glad he liked the scooter.”
