ONE of the brave British soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan is Bury man Sergeant Scott Turnbull.
He has asked the Bury Times to relay his greetings to his family and friends back home.
Serving with the 7th Signal Regiment in Kabul, Sgt Turnbull, aged 27, has been in the British Army for 10 and a half years.
He said: “I’m living in Elmpt, just outside Monchengladbach in Germany, but Bury is still, and will always be, my home.
“I lived in Bury for 16 years until I joined the Army. I went to Holcombe Brook County Primary School and Woodhey High school.”
His mum and dad, Shelagh and David Turnbull, both still live in Bury with his brother, Richard.
Sgt Turnbull continued: “I come home quite often whenever I have leave. I was last in Bury on my R&R (rest and recuperation) in June and, before that, when I was on leave at Christmas.
“I have lots of friends back home, mainly the staff and regulars of The Footballers Inn in Summerseat who have also been very supportive during my time out here by sending parcels. All my family and friends have been very supportive of me.”
