A FINAL rallying call has gone out for women to take part in Bury Hospice’s Midnight Walk.
Entries have been flooding in all week and more than 240 people have now entered Saturday’s fundraising event.
But there is still time for walkers to take part and raise money for the care of people with life-threatening or terminal illnesses.
Michelle King, community fundraiser for the hospice, said: “We need as many women as possible to take part. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and the more women who take part, the more money we will raise.
”We understand that people leave things to the last minute, so we are allowing walkers to register on the night. They can still raise money by collecting sponsors after the walk.”
The walk begins at midnight on Saturday and follows a 10-mile circular route from the Bolholt Hotel, in Walshaw Road, through the streets of Bury and past the hospice, in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe.
Walkers will be given an event T-shirt but are being encouraged to dress outrageously, with feather boas, hats and glow sticks.
Among those taking part will be seven members of Slimming World’s Redvales group, who meet at Bury Sports Club.
Member Diane Conn, of Borough Avenue, Radcliffe, is looking forward to the walk after losing one-and-a-half stone in seven weeks.
Mrs Conn, aged 40, said: “Before I joined Slimming World, I wouldn’t have even considered completing a 10-mile walk. I couldn’t have done it, because my back hurt and I got out of breath walking just a short distance. Although I still have some way to go to reach my target, I am confident that I will do it.”
Walkers can enter the event by phoning the hospice on 0161 797 1748 or emailing midnightwalk@buryhospice.org.
Entry costs £10, which covers administration costs and includes a medal, T-shirt and sponsor forms.
