RETIRING fireman Steve Simpson hopes to prove himself “hot stuff” in the world of antiques!
After 30 years serving as a firefighter, the 50-year-old is moving into a more sedate career as he contemplates a fresh challenge.
Mr Simpson has retired from the position of watch commander at Whitefield fire station in Bury New Road where he had served for the past 15 years. He had been attached to the blue watch. Prior to that, he had worked at several other stations including Oldham and Chadderton.
He said: “I’m going to miss this, but I’ve reached the point now where it’s time to move on.”
He will now harness his expertise in antiques as he looks to the future.
He said: “I am an antiques buff and I’ve got myself a job in a large antiques centre. It’s a new challenge for me and I’m looking forward to doing something different.”
Mr Simpson, who lives in Salterforth, near Skipton, received a chrome fireman’s axe and antique pocket watch among his farewell gifts from colleagues. He and fellow firefighters held a special retirement party at the weekend.
