Flower power was in abundant supply to ensure Ramsbottom Horticultural Society’s summer show was a blooming success.

Dozens of exhibitors presented floral displays and homegrown produce at the event at Ramsbottom’s Riverside Cricket Club on Bank Holiday Monday. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bury, Cllr Sheila Magnall and her daughter, Elizabeth Pepper, presented awards in the adult and junior classes.

Among the silver medal winners were Eric Johnson for his vegetables and Ian Sutherland for his dahlias. A special prize in memory of Neville Roscow was won by Terry Morris for his gladioli exhibits.

This year there were seven junior entries, with Hannah Bostock winning the trophy for most points and Sonny Broadhurst earning a special prize for his chocolate cake.

Society secretary Keith McCarren said: “The weather turned out fine and the show was a great success, all classes being well supported.”
