I am researching a porcelain jug which bears the following inscription “John & Hannah Buckley Lomax 1833”.
John Buckley Lomax was born in 1812 in Pilkington, Bury. It is thought that Hannah was his first wife, who died in the early1830s.
He then married Margaret Sarah Henshaw in 1844. She was known as Sarah Lomax. John was listed in the 1861 census as living as living in Cross Street, Radcliffe.
He was in business as a cloth finisher employing 12 people. His firm is listed as late as 1924 at Victoria works, Dale St, Radcliffe.
He had a daughter called Martha with his first wife and four children, Samuel, Alice, Margaret and Hannah, with his second wife.
I have no information about the scenes of musicians which appear on the jug and are reproduced here, however, the flute player is common to both pictures and could be John Buckley Lomax as part of his works band.
I would be grateful for any information regarding the above which should be sent to Anthony Thomas, 13, Edgemoor, Bowdon Cheshire, WA14 3JN.
