THE secrets in the depths of Elton Reservoir have been revealed as the water continues to drain away.
Several cars abandoned decades ago have reappeared at the beauty spot.
More than 920 million litres of water are being drained from the borough’s biggest reservoir as part of an £800,000 improvement project.
The maintenance work will see valves, timber plugs and drains replaced, the spillway weir and channel repaired and additional embankment protection added.
A British Waterways spokesman said: “The works are going well, with works to repair the spillway channel and install drainage quite well advanced. Much of the work will not start until after the reservoir has been fully drained.”
The reservoir project should be completed in October, but it could be December before it is full again.
