A BURY mum and son are celebrating individual graduation achievements.
Teenager Stuart Crook, who joined the Royal Navy in January, has just graduated from HMS Collingwood as an engineering technician weapon engineer (ETWE).
And his mum, Louise, has graduated from the University of Salford with a postgraduate diploma (advanced practice) in nuclear medicine.
Stuart, aged 19, who attended St Gabriel’s RC High School and Holy Cross College, Bury, is carrying on a family tradition which now spans five generations.
The Walmersley teenager follows in the footsteps of four previous generations of his family who have had links with the Armed Forces.
In the First World War, his great-great grandfather served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, his great grandfather served on the convoys in the Royal Navy during World War Two.
His grandfather was in the Army and his dad served in the Royal Navy during the Falklands war.
Stuart is soon to join his first ship, aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious, and he is looking forward to furthering his naval career.
Mum-of-two Mrs Louise Crook, aged 42, started working in nuclear medicine at Manchester Royal Infirmary six years ago and is employed as a senior medical technician.
She had to complete training with the Institute of Physics and Engineering in medicine as part of her ongoing professional development while also studying for her postgraduate diploma.
