THE popular Rhythm and Blues festival is returning to Ramsbottom after four years.
The event, which was launched in 2004, attracted more than more than 3,000 music fans to the town.
But after just two years, the main sponsor, Thwaites Brewery, pulled out and the festival was dropped.
Now the extravaganza is back, thanks to organisers The Met, in Bury.
David Agnew, director of The Met, said: “The programme is shaping up to be world class, with something for everyone throughout the day and early evening.”
Last year, the Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Local Area Partnership (LAP) donated £1,500 towards the cost of running the festival, thought to be around £11,000. The Bury Arts Association and local businesses have also supported the event.
LAP chairman, Cllr Yvonne Wright, said: “It’s fantastic for Ramsbottom and will really bring the crowds in, which is important in a small town competing for business. The place will be buzzing.”
The festival will take place at Ramsbottom Cricket Club on September 26 and 27.
Saturday’s headliner Matt Schofield has been labelled the new British ambassador of blues guitar.
Ben Waters is one of the world’s leading rock and roll pianists who will headline on Sunday along with his 10-piece band. The weekend will also feature Mark Radcliffe's AC-50s, Otis Gibbs, Marcus Bonfanti and Paddy Milner, The Ian Siegal Band, The Stumble and Cuillin Blue.
