A BUSINESSMAN who was attacked and robbed in his own home is launching a new domestic security company to help combat the crooks.

Mark Bedward wants to ensure other householders do not have to endure what he did when confronted by masked raiders in June.

The 45-year-old was repeatedly hit with a hammer and suffered a broken nose, severe bruising and other injuries when his home in Brandlesholme was targeted.

He had a watch cut from his wrist before the armed raiders escaped with jewellery, computers and cameras.

Now, in the wake of his ordeal, he has joined forces with two other businessmen, Stuart Gears and Trevor Jones, to establish HomeCare Family Protect.

Mr Bedward previously ran Global Telecoms and Technology in Bury, which closed in February with the loss of 100 jobs He said: “When I was attacked in my own home, and reading in the Bury Times that there had been similar, dreadful attacks, I realised it was actually more important to help protect unsuspecting people in their own homes.

“Even with alarm systems and good levels of security locks, you still never know who is in your home. I have a fabulous alarm system, but I was still attacked and badly injured as I stepped on to the landing from my bedroom.

“What worries me is that I was strong and fit enough to defend myself and I’m getting over the trauma. But if that was my mother, someone’s older, frail grandmother or their young son or daughter, the consequences could have been deadly.”

Mr Bedward’s new company offers a range of interior and exterior security measures, including equipment to beam pictures of a customer’s house to a mobile phone or computer when they’re away.

He is exploring the possibility of opening a remote monitoring control centre in Bury to harness such technology.

Police are still hunting for the men who struck at Mr Bedward’s house.
