A BURY man who attacked a clubber and left him with a fractured jaw has been jailed for 13 months.
Warren Senior, aged 23, punched Glen Holmes repeatedly in the head before he was dragged out of the premises by door staff, Burnley Crown Court heard.
Senior, who also suffered bruising and swelling to both eyes and a chipped tooth, had earlier been hit in a Burnley club by an unknown man.
Senior, of Peel Cottages, Affetside, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm last September.
Stephen Parker, prosecuting, told the court Mr Holmes had an operation to have a metal plate put into his jaw after the assault. He was in hospital for four days and off work for a week.
When Senior was arrested and interviewed, he said he remembered arguing but could not recall anything else. He had previous convictions for assault.
Michael Blakey, defending, said Senior apologised for his actions.
The court heard that he had had problems with drink and started offending when he was 17.
Mr Blakey said Senior was intelligent, talented, articulate and gifted.
He could have played professional rugby after winning a scholarship but for one reason or another he did not follow that through.
