AN Army cadet is getting on his bike to raise money for soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Joseph Coyne, of Cornfield Close, Bury, will cycle 88 miles to Hawkshead, in the Lake District, on Sunday, August 30.
The 14-year-old will spend a full day completing the solo bike ride from the war memorial in Bury to the war memorial in Hawkshead.
Joseph is a member of Bury Grammar School’s combined cadet force and is undertaking the challenge to raise money for charity Help For Heroes.
He said: “I want to join the Army one day and I think it’s important to support the soldiers who are already fighting. I am looking forward to the bike ride, but I think it will be hard work.
“It will probably take around eight or nine hours to complete. I have been training for it and I’m confident I’ll reach Hawkshead.”
Joseph has already raised £1,000, thanks to donations from family and friends, Rising Sun Karate Association in Radcliffe, where he is a member, and the Co-operative store in Mile Lane, Bury.
