FOR the June meeting of the Society members revisited Grane for an evening walk around Calf Hey reservoir.
Aided by historical notes charting the early development of the area, its homesteads, hamlets, village, school, places of worship, and industries, together with their eventual decline, and the construction of the present reservoirs, members viewed the conserved remains of several former dwellings and hamlets.
Fine weather contributed to an entertaining and informative evening. The next meeting will be on August 17, for a visit to Rochdale Pioneers Museum, birthplace of the co-operative movement.
Meeting at Edenfield Community Centre, at 7pm, for transport to Rochdale by car sharing, those wishing to take part should note there is an entrance fee of £1 per head. Membership details may be obtained from Jackie MacDonald, secretary 01706 823183. AM
