NUISANCE bikers blighting the lives of Whitefield residents have been warned that they risk having their vehicles crushed — and could be given an ASBO.
Police and council officials have teamed up to stop motorcyclists and quad bikers riding on parkland in the area around the Whitefield Golf Club and Philips Park.
To date, two persistent offenders have been given ASBOs.
Officers say problems peak in the school holidays — police seized six bikes over Easter.
A spokesman for Bury Council said: “There are no facilities to ride off-road bikes and quad bikes in the area, and it is unlawful and unsafe to ride these vehicles without the landowner’s permission.
“The police are using powers to seize and crush bikes that are causing a nuisance.
“Riding off-road bikes illegally can result in an ASBO, points on your licence or a driving ban, even before you get your licence.”
Inspector David Ryecroft, of Whitefield Police, said: “We are committed to tackling nuisance biking.
“Residents can assist the police by reporting any incidents and providing information that will help identify the culprits.”
If you have any information about nuisance bikers, call police on 0161 872 5050.
