A CRACKDOWN on motorists who drop litter from their vehicles has seen 23 drivers across Radcliffe and Bury reported to organisers, Keep Britain Tidy.
The environmental group launched a national campaign three weeks ago after figures revealed a quarter of drivers admitted they litter from their cars.
Keep Britain Tidy is calling for culprits to be fined and receive points on their driving licence. In Bury, cigarette ends top the list of littered items, closely followed by fast food waste.
Cllr Dorothy Gunther, Bury Council’s executive member for environment and transport, said: “These figures reveal just how widespread this disgraceful habit is — and I suspect that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s a fag end or a half-eaten takeaway, throwing litter out of your car window is simply unacceptable.
“I urge people in Bury to report instances of car-littering to the Keep Britain Tidy website and hopefully we can stop this sort of behaviour.”
The campaign runs for one month. To log an incident of car littering visit www.keepbritain tidy.org
