A COUNCILLOR could tonight face disciplinary action after she voted on the future of a Bury school without revealing she was a governor there.

At an Executive meeting in January, Cllr Dorothy Gunther voted on a proposal to merge The Derby and Radcliffe Riverside high schools. She is a governor at The Derby High School.

Rules state elected members must declare personal interests they have on topics up for discussion.

After the meeting, the then Labour Leader and councillor, Wayne Campbell, who has since left politics, made a formal complaint to Bury Council.

Speaking in April while still a councillor, Mr Campbell said: “Clearly, she should not have taken part in a vote, especially one so vital, relating to a school she was a governor at.”

A hearing is due to take place before Bury Council’s standards committee at the town hall tonight.

Cllr Gunther said: “I do not wish to make a comment on this because it is strictly confidential.”

Should the committee decide Cllr Gunther broke the rules, they could punish her in a number of ways, from asking her to apologise to suspending her from office.

The meeting starts at 6pm an is open to the public.
