ROADWORKS are now fully under way in Bury town centre as the £80 million Townside Fields development begins to take real shape.
The next few months will see the final stages in the construction of new offices for Bury Council and NHS Bury, including a medical centre, on the site opposite the Town Hall off Knowsley Street.
Future work will include Six Town Housing’s 20,000 sq ft offices and a 110-bed Premier Inn hotel development.
Works have now started on the highway to improve vehicle and pedestrian facilities around the Angouleme Way/Knowsley Street/Haymarket Street junction.
When the scheme is completed, new controlled pedestrian crossings will be provided across Angouleme Way to the east of the junction and across Knowsley Street. In addition, the existing subway will be modified and brought back into use.
The highway works are expected to continue through until early December.
