COMPETITORS in Edenfield went hopping mad for a hopscotch championship.
People of all ages took part in Edenfield Parish Church’s contest, which was sponsored by Edenfield and District Horticultural Society.
Challengers aged from between four to 90 were invited to compete for the title of quickest hopscotcher.
Mary Threlfold, aged 11, beat contenders in the adult and older children's section, to win first place after completing five scotches in 46 seconds.
The junior champion was Edenfield Primary School pupil, Emily Nuttall, aged five.
Each winner received a trophy and a family meal.
It is hoped the contest will become an annual event in the village memorial garden at Market Street.
A total of £117 was raised for the church with funds from stalls, refreshments and a tombola.
Betty Garvey, church and society member: “It was a brilliant day and lots of people, young and old, took part.
“If anyone thinks they can do better we would be happy to battle it out with them.”
