A teenager died in a crash after a police chase last night, Tuesday.

At around 9.15pm, officers were called to a report of a theft of a car on William Greenwood Close in Heywood.

A short pursuit took place after the driver of a Toyota Aqua Hybrid failed to stop for police.

The Toyota then struck a Volkswagen Up on Manchester Road before coming to a stop.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services who attended, an 18-year-old man died.

A man in his 20s and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

They remain in custody for questioning.

The driver of the Volkswagen Up did not receive any injuries and remained in the area to help officers with the investigation.
