A bar and kitchen in Unsworth is appealing for help from the community to survive after it has been “forced” to close for more than a month.

The Dog Haus had to close its doors in early November after suffering a major electrical fault and will not be able to open again until December 13.

The independent business took to social media to share its plight, asking customers to offer “continued support and loyalty to get through this difficult time”.

They also shared that the Parr Lane establishment is surviving “week to week in the current climate”.

They claim that energy supplier E.on Next cut the electricity supply to the building on November 7 due to a health and safety risk, leaving them unable to trade.

The post goes on to say that they have had “endless phone calls and emails to rectify the problem”, however, engineers will not be able to attend the building to complete the necessary work until December 11.

The Dog Haus claims this is due to them being a business customer and not a residential property, deeming it non-urgent.

In the emotive statement, they said: “How are we meant to survive being closed for five weeks during our busiest time of year…we have put everything into the Dog Haus and see ourselves as a hub for the local community.

“You guys are what makes it so special and stops us from giving up.

"We will need your continued support and loyalty to get through this difficult time and take us into 2025 with a band.

“Supporting local has never been as important as it is now. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you to all the parties that have been so understanding.”

One person commented: “This is awful. Hopefully the community will rally round and support you when you get back up and running.

"Will certainly come in for a drink.”

Another added: “I will make a point of coming in when you open. Support local business guys. Use it or lose it.”

The Dog Haus and E.on Next have been contacted for comment.
