Bury’s newest district commander, Chief Superintendent Kirsty Oliver, has shared her commitment to protecting children and vulnerable people across the district.

Ch Supt Kirsty Oliver was appointed earlier this month and has worked across a variety of roles, particularly in vulnerability and partnership work.

She started her policing career almost two decades ago and will be taking a “crime-fighting approach” focusing on protecting victims and pursuing criminals in the Bury area.

In her role as former director of intelligence at Greater Manchester Police (GMP), she worked to improve the way that intelligence is delivered throughout the force.

The new district commander will be leveraging her experience as a child sexual exploitation expert for College of Policing, which gives her extensive knowledge of how to spot, prevent and safeguard children who could be sexually exploited.

She is “dedicated to ensuring that children are able to safely go about their day with confidence” and will be working alongside key partners in the multi-agency Complex Safeguarding Team consisting of police, health and children’s services.

Chief Superintendent Kirsty Oliver said: “One of the first things I noticed when I started here is that there is a real sense of cohesion within the community. It’s such a lovely thriving area and I am thrilled to serve it and its people.

“I am excited to get stuck in and do my part to ensure that everyone who lives in or comes to visit Bury is safe from crime.”

Ch Supt Kirsty Oliver will also be conducting several internal surveys to make sure that her team can put forth ideas and is working closely with faith and community leaders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of minority communities.

She added: “It is vital for me that all children throughout Bury have the same opportunities and benefits to succeed.

“I’ve done a lot of volunteering with The Prince’s Trust and am passionate to ensure that all children and young people are able to go about their day safely and with confidence.

“I want to do my absolute best so that everyone in the community feels the positive effects throughout Bury.”
