A man has been charged after a reported stabbing at the weekend.

The attack took place on Malton Avenue in Unsworth, just off Sawley Avenue, on Sunday November 17 and a man in his 40s was taken to hospital with "serious injuries". 

Police and ambulance crews attended the area, which was cordoned off for several hours as forensic teams worked in the area. 

A resident told the Bury Times that they heard “moaning and groaning” in the street before an ambulance arrived just after 4pm that afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed that Quinton Rainbird, of Abingdon Avenue, Unsworth, has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

The 49 year-old was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Salford and Manchester Magistrates Court today, Thursday.

Meanwhile, GMP has not confirmed if a house fire, which happened on Malton Avenue at around 10.55pm, is linked to the incident.

Speaking on Sunday, Detective Sergeant Rebecca Dickinson of GMP’s Bury district, said: “I want to reassure the community that we are continuing to work closely with our partner agencies to ensure we keep Bury, and the wider Greater Manchester community, safe."
