A bakery chain is offering residents freebies after a recent advertising blunder.

GAIL's Bakery, which is opening in Prestwich early next year, is giving away free cups of tea to those living nearby to say sorry after they accidentally missed the letter "t" from the word "Prestwich" on the Bury New Road bakery signage.

The signs incorrectly refer to the town as "Preswich" instead of "Prestwich" stating “Hello Preswich. We’ll be here soon.”

GAIL’s deemed the error as “embarrassing” and immediately apologised for the mistake.

A spokesperson for GAIL’s said: “Although spelling mistakes happen to the best of us, GAIL’s want to extend their apology, and to make up for the missing ‘t’, the bakery has released a QR code for local residents to scan which will enable them to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of tea once the bakery opens in early 2025.”

Customers can find the QR code on the now-updated signage and those who are subscribed to GAIL’s emails will also receive a virtual code.

Speculation about the arrival of the new Prestwich bakery escalated when workers in branded hi-vis vests were spotted in the building last month.

The news was all but confirmed when the window signage went up last week, however, eagle-eyed passers-by soon spotted the typo.

The bakery will be its first branch in the north side of Manchester and will provide fresh, handmade bread, pastries, cakes and speciality coffee.
