A large water leak in Bury town centre today, Saturday, has led to access being closed off to some areas - including an entrance to Mill Gate Shopping Centre.
The council said the area around the Market Street junction with Market Place is currently taped off and the entrance to the Mill Gate at Kay Gardens is closed.
United Utilities confirmed that a water main has burst on Market Street outside Skipton Building Society.
Engineers were on site at 9.30am today to assess the situation and to isolate the main.
The road has subsequently been closed by the police and a specialist team has been despatched to carry out repairs.
Damage to the road will be assessed and repairs undertaken to reinstate "in due course".
