A community group of artists and volunteers based in Whitefield will be hosting a winter fair later this month.

The fair will take place on Saturday, November 30 at Whitefield Methodist Church.

From 12pm to 4pm, free workshops will be running throughout the day including clay modelling, printing, zine-making and needle-felting.

Artists and crafters will be exhibiting and selling their work.

Neil Greenhalgh, chair of Art in Whitefield and fine art lecturer at the University of Bolton, said: “I moved to Whitefield a few years ago and realised shortly after moving here that, compared to our neighbours Prestwich and Bury, not a lot happens in Whitefield in terms of art and culture.

“So, in September 2018 I decided to set up Art in Whitefield.

“It all started as a Facebook group and now we are an active community group working together to bring more events and experiences to those living, working and visiting Whitefield.

“We have been successful in securing funding from Bury Culture Grants and this will allow the group to do so much more in promoting the arts.”

Whitefield-based illustrator, community artist and craft tutor, Caroline Coates, said: “I deliver a range of workshops from calligraphy to embroidery to jewellery making.

“I am passionate about making art and crafts accessible for all abilities and ages.

“Art in Whitefield is a great initiative to support and showcase art that is right on our doorstep!”

The winter fair is funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund with support from the council and Bury VCFA.
