A Bury couple who run a fitness studio have opened a coffee shop which blends "Northern Quarter coffee culture" with locally sourced treats.

Husband and wife Nick and Louise Phillips opened Daily Grind Coffee Co
alongside their fitness studio Luv Fitness and have already received glowing feedback from coffee lovers.

They moved into the former registry office on Parson’s Lane in 2022 and now have their new shop at the site.

Co-owner Nick, 42, said: “We’re trying to keep everything local so all our cakes are locally sourced from people who live in Bury, our beans are roasted in Bolton and then we grind them a certain way to ensure that it’s the best quality."

The pair have had a long love affair with coffee since sampling speciality coffee in Europe and are bringing the same standard of quality to their business.

As well as coffee, cakes and pastries the shop sells a range of freshly made protein shakes with healthy sourdough sandwiches set to be introduced before Christmas.

“We are quite a small close-knit community and we’ve got a running club that is from Daily Grind and then we have people coming out from fitness classes to drink coffee it’s just a nice chilled community.

“The most popular protein shake is the Love Nuts which is peanut butter chocolate protein powder, and milk and then we've got a Love Bury which is all berries so strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries with a strawberry protein.

“We’ve had great feedback from our customers, whereas in other places, the coffee can be hit or miss, we take it one coffee at a time here and keep it quality every time."

Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the government's budget on Wednesday, October 30, which left Nick feeling more could have been done to support smaller firms.

He said: “While the changes in the budget don't affect our business as much, it would be nice to see more things for small businesses to help them get off the ground because it's tough right now, it is hard.

“Generally business is tough at the minute, it is challenging and people are more conscious about what they're spending so we’ll see how it goes and we can't wait to get to know some more customers."
