The National Poppy Appeal has been launched in the borough and details of the Remembrance Service in Bury have been announced.

Each year, the British Royal Legion organises an appeal to commemorate those who died in past conflicts and raise funds to support the armed forces.

Poppies are available at locations across the borough or can be ordered from the British Royal Legion's website.

Bury mayor, Cllr Khalid Hussain, said: "Every year, the Poppy Appeal brings together our community in support of the brave men and women who fought for our freedom and those who continue to protect and serve our community.

"The British Royal Legion provides vital support to veterans and their families, and their amazing work helps ensure that those who protect us are also protected and cared for in return.

"Make sure to get your poppy as a way to remember the sacrifices made and show your support for our armed forces and veterans."

A civic service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, November 10.

Three processions will depart from Bury Town Hall between 10.35am and 10.45am, proceeding along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street, and Market Street to the Cenotaph at Bury Parish Church.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

Cllr Hussain and representatives of the services and civilian organisations across Bury will lay wreaths at the memorial.

An order of proceedings sheet will be available and members of the public present are invited to join in the singing of hymns during the wreath laying Ceremony.

After the wreath laying ceremony, a service of Remembrance will be held in Bury Parish Church.

Following this, a march past of various detachments will take place at around 12.30pm, where the mayor will take the salute.

The processions will be dismissed once they have returned to the town hall.
