Bury College has opened new catering facilities to give students the "perfect start to their careers".

The new centre has three teaching classrooms, each accommodating up to 24 students.

There is also a general classroom with a Promethean screen, an interactive whiteboard with a touch-sensitive display, to include a range of catering and cookery books that will double as a library.

A nutrition lab, equipped to support experiments and activities, has also been set up.

The teaching kitchen, built in line with modern industry kitchens, uses smart cooking technology appliances with direct links to sustainability.

This includes the minimisation of ingredient weight loss and energy use with induction and high-spec smart ovens.

The social space features 250 seats and will be managed by students across all three catering levels.

This will ensure "high-quality and nutritious meals are provided while catering skills are developed in a real-life working environment".

Michael Bromley, header of estates at the college, said: "The completion of this refurbishment marks a pivotal achievement in our Woodbury Transformation Project and our broader accommodation strategy.

"Despite the challenges, the minimal disruption to our learners and the exceptional quality of the final fit and finish throughout are a testament to the college projects team’s skill and dedication.

"I am thrilled that we can now provide current and future generations of Bury College catering students with state-of-the-art facilities and industry-standard equipment, giving them the perfect start to their careers."

The college’s catering courses aim to help learners further develop their skills to prepare for careers as a confectioner, restaurant manager, barista or chef.
