A driver was arrested after being stopped from buying alcohol by two off duty police officers.

Police reported on the afternoon of Monday October 14 that the man had been driving a Ford Mondeo before stopping at a petrol station in Radcliffe.

They say that he had been trying to buy alcohol and that on being arrested he turned out to have been driving over the legal limit.

A Greater Manchester Police Traffic spokesperson said: “The driver of a Ford Mondeo picked an unfortunate time to buy more alcohol when he stopped at a petrol station in Radcliffe.

“He was detained by 2 of the road police unit’s off duty officers as he then attempted to drive away.

“On the arrival of traffic patrols the male blew 84 at the roadside.”

This comes amid long running concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads across Greater Manchester in recent months and years.

Police have dealt with cases of drink and drug driving as well as speeding, dangerous driving, car thefts and various other kinds of anti-social behaviour in the roads.
