Primary school hosts scarecrow festival to bring community together

St Stephen’s CE Primary School hosted the free family festival on Saturday, October 12.

More than 230 visitors came to see the creations and those taking part had to follow a map to find all the scarecrows hidden in the extensive grounds of the school, including the forest school.

Every visitor received free refreshments and was invited to complete the scarecrow hunt.

All completed scarecrow hunts were entered into the free raffle of 10 prizes including donations from local businesses which included Go Local Extra, Tesco, Playtopia and Boomerang.

Headteacher Sally Denney said: "It was a brilliant day supported by our staff, families and local community.

“We welcomed over 230 visitors, and it was wonderful to see our school grounds filled with people of all ages having so much fun together.

“There aren't many free, family events around so we were thrilled to be able to share this special time with everyone who came.

“Our children have loved making their scarecrows and planning this community event with us. A huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Michelle Dent, a visitor on the day said: "It was an amazing festival!

“It was so lovely to see so many people there and so, so many happy faces, thank you, everyone!"

The event was inspired by the Seddons Farm Community who hold their own scarecrow festival each year during the summer holidays.

Many pupils of St Stephen's missed it this year, so the school wanted an opportunity for them to join in the fun.

Eight residents donated their scarecrows to the event, each class made their own creation linked to the books they had been reading or enjoyed and families of St Stephen's also created their own including favourites such as Peppa Pig and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
