A choir who has been performing for more than 30 years will be performing in Bury on Friday.

Notability, a mixed-voice choir of 16 singers, formed in 1993 as a result of a request to provide music at a wedding.

Initially, a group of eight friends, all keen choral singers, formed a vocal ensemble to respond to this request.

One concert led to another and three decades later, with some additions to the group, they are still singing together and still good friends.

While the choir is based in North Manchester, members come from all over the region to share their love of singing.

The choir does not have a conductor as they feel this leads to better communication with the audience. But it does have a tempo establisher, an accomplished accompanist, a publicity designer and others who work together to "entertain and emotionally move the audience, to laughter or tears".

Notability members enjoy performing a wide variety of music, both sacred and secular, whether it is ancient or modern, classical or popular, and are equally at home singing “a cappella” or with accompaniment.

The choir gives regular performances in churches, cathedrals and other venues in the North West and has also performed further afield, including concerts in London, Kent and the New Forest.

Notability’s repertoire for this season’s series of concerts includes some popular 20th century songs written or recorded by artists such as Rogers and Hart, Judy Garland and George Harrison.

The repertoire also includes classical gems, folk songs, gospel music and beautiful religious anthems.

They will be playing at Bury Parish Church in a lunchtime concert at 12.30pm.

Tickets will cost £5 on the door and refreshments will be served from 11.15am.
