Plans for a new lakeside café with decking extending over the water have been approved.
The attraction, along with a shop, are to be built at land at Pilsworth Fishery, which operates three lakes off Moss Hall Road between Bury and Heywood.
The applicants say the aim of the new café is "to attract the general public to the lake and surrounding area for walks, picnics and outdoor recreation".
The shop will serve the fishing community including supply of bait and tackle and the café will also have "potential for small exhibitions interpretative displays and information".
The plans have now been approved by the council.
The lakes were dug out in the mid 19th century by the Pilsworth Clough Mills bleach works.
The water supply came from Three Arrows, Brightley Brook and Harehills Brook and a colliery pit supply.
A design and access report in support of the plans said: “The angling use on site will be maintained and the recreational activities will attract people from the wider community.
“Other outdoor events including walks, picnics, nature watching and play areas will also be encouraged which will help in enhancing people’s lives and well-being.”
The plans will also restore the Boathouse ruin at the site.
Pilsworth Fishery’s three lakes are stocked with carp, chub, tench, roach and barbel. The match lake has 47 pegs several of which are accessible for disabled people.
The application describes the concept for the café.
It states: “The building emerges at the head of the lake following the winding approach along the track. It nestles into the lower ground to the west of the former bailiff’s cottage proposal.
“Our first concept frames the view over the lake between structures.
"The café and shop are separated and form a courtyard by the lake edge with decking extending over the water.”
