Bury’s pubs have been commended in the latest edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

Pubs in Bury, Ramsbottom, Affetside, Elton, and Greenmount were commended in the 2025 guide.

The 2025 edition guide can be purchased with a Coronation Street or Emmerdale cover for £16.99.

The guide surveys 4,500 of the best pubs in the UK – with nine Bury borough establishments featuring this year.

Bury

  • Art Picture House, Haymarket Street
  • Broad Street Social, Broad Street
  • Hare & Hounds, Bolton Road West

Affetside

  • Pack Horse, Watling Street, Affetside

Elton

  • Elton Liberal Club, New George Street

Greenmount

  • Greenmount Cricket Club, Brandlesholme Road

Ramsbottom

  • Casked, Prince Street
  • Irwell Works Brewery Tap, Irwell Street
  • Ramsbottom Royal British Legion, Central Street

Peter Alexander, chairman of CAMRA’s Rochdale, Oldham and Bury branch, said: “Eleven pubs in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury made it through into the Good Beer Guide 2025.

“There was a lot of strong competition to get into the guide this year, and the selection reflects this with the majority of pubs and clubs included in the guide coming from the communities surrounding Bury town centre.

“In particular, the Ramsbottom district is proving itself to be a burgeoning centre of real ale excellence with three Good Beer Guide pubs or clubs within the town, and is fast becoming a real ale destination in itself.”

This year’s guide features covers with a choice of a Coronation Street or Emmerdale theme – with the Rovers Return Inn or the Woolpack.

CAMRA chairman Ash Corbett-Collins said: “The Rovers Return Inn and the Woolpack represent the UK’s love of their local, and to have them featured on the covers for this year’s Guide is very exciting.

“CAMRA’s mission is to ensure support from the Government as well as tangible legislation to protect pubs across each nation of the UK. By next year’s edition of the Guide, we want to be talking about the beer and pub trade growing with the support of communities and parliament alike.”
