Second-hand September is here, and as always, the Bury Hospice shops are stocked with loads of preloved fashion items, showcasing the best in sustainable fashion.

We are fortunate to have so many supporters who kindly donate clothing items to the hospice for resale.

This ensures that our shops are directly supporting local patients and their families.

We have seven hospice shops in Bury, located across the borough. By shopping at any one of our stores, you are helping to reduce, reuse and recycle items that may have otherwise needlessly ended up in landfill.

By purchasing preloved fashion items from one of our charity shops, you are taking a stance against fast fashion by giving clothes a second chance, and not contributing to a throwaway culture, which is detrimental to the environment.

September is a pivotal month in the world of charity retail, with both Sustainable Fashion Week (20-29) and Charity Shop Fashion Week (23-29) highlighting the importance of buying second-hand clothes.

According to Green Heart Collective, in the UK, we throw away more than 300,000 tonnes of textiles on average every year.

Extending the life of clothing by donating and buying second-hand helps to reduce our clothing impacts on the environment.

Rachel Duncan, retail operations manager at the hospice, said: “Charity shop retail is important because it’s centred around both sustainability and affordability.

“Charity shops are central hubs for communities, where you can get great one-off items.

"You can come across unique vintage pieces, which means you can be more original and creative with what you wear.”

With both New York and London Fashion Weeks just gone, and Paris Fashion Week just around the corner, by shopping at the hospice stores, you can most likely find fashion week styles at charity shop prices.

Our two boutique shops, in particular (located in the Mill Gate Shopping Centre, Bury), are stocked full with designer items, bridal wear, and evening clothing items – ideal for getting your Christmas Party outfits sorted!

You are invited to join us on Friday, November 29, for the hospice Christmas party night at the rustic Wellbeing Farm in Edgworth, where we will be celebrating in style.
