Runners braved the rain to take part in the fun Bury 10k.

The Bury 10k Fun Run took place this morning, September 15, with hundreds of runners starting at The Rock before making their way up to Tottington and back.

The route took in some of the most picturesque places in the borough, including the local nature reserve, the Kirklees Trail.

There were even smaller runs for families to take part in.

Kicking off shortly after the Bury BID 10K, the mini and junior events  featured a start and finish outside the Rock Shopping Centre.

The mini 1.5km was for children between the ages of three to eight whilst the junior 2.5km for children between the ages of nine and 14.

Participants are invited to wheel, walk, jog and run as organisers work to make the event accessible to all abilities and ages ranging from three to 81.

Hundreds lined up at the starting line surrounded by friends and family cheering them on.

Spectator Sue Maxwell was there on the barrier to cheer on her son, having come from Rochdale.

She said: "The weather is shocking, I will have to find somewhere for a brew soon!

"He is hoping to do it in about 50 minutes. He does 5k Parkruns every Saturday so is pretty keen, he has been all over the place, including in Poland."

Carrie Dearden from Bury was supporting her husband and his friend.

She said: "They are doing it just for fun. But with a fun run, it is that mutual support isn't it?

"Especially on a wet day like today, you need that camaraderie.

"They did just under an hour last time, but it is wet isn't it, I know it can get a bit muddy in places."

There are also road closures in place to be aware of.

Staged in partnership with the council since the Bury 10K launched in 2016 it has continued to grow in popularity.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All, said: “A huge well done and thank you to all participants who joined us for one of the North West’s flagship running events, the Bury BID 10K.

"With the addition of the Bury Mini and Junior runs it has been a fantastic day of running and fundraising for all abilities and ages.

“The enthusiasm and support from everyone involved, from the participants to the many spectators, sponsors, partners and volunteers, all ensured the day was a great success.”
