Art and culture venues in Bury will be hosting a series of events and activities to celebrate National Heritage Open Days 2024 this weekend.
Heritage Open Days is England's largest community-led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations.
Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history.
This year’s Heritage Open Days runs from September 6 to 15.

As part of the programme, Bury theatre The Met will be hosting special storytelling sessions, performances and an emerging talent showcase on Saturday evening for people to enjoy.
Visitors during the weekend will be able to see old photos, brochures, and original posters from performers who have graced its stage as well as a pop-up exhibition telling the history of the theatre.
Bury Transport Museum will have a special display of locomotive and rolling stock from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway which operated the current Heritage line from 1847 to 1922.

The Fusilier Museum has teamed up with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to host special tours sharing the personal stories of people commemorated on both the Cross of Sacrifice outside Bury Parish Church and in the museum itself.
Bury Art Museum will be hosting a mini archaeological display by Holcombe Moor Heritage Group and Bury Parish Church will be open on Friday, September 6 for a special concert by pianist, Ian Buckley as well as open for people to view from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, September 7.

There will also be a heritage-inspired storytelling walk for children and families, Spirit of Place Urban Sketching Tour led by Two Crows Art Studio and a series of heritage walks in Holcombe Village, Ramsbottom, and Burrs Country Park.
Bury Archive’s full digital collection will be on the display screens, and they will be giving away historical newspaper reproductions and postcards throughout the full 10 days.
