Dozens of firefighters tackled a blaze overnight at a Bury scrapyard.

The fire took place at a commercial premises on Pimhole Road, where a "large amount" of scrap metal set alight in the early hours of today, Tuesday.

Eight fire engines and a number of special appliances, including the turntable ladder and a drone, were deployed to the scene at 1.30am.

This morning, two fire engines and a police vehicle remained on scene, with the road being closed to prevent disruption to fire hoses.

Greater Manchester Police has said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances around the fire.

Fire hoses were running down Pimhole Road from its junction with Hurst Street, where a fire engine was parked. The street’s junction with Pimhole Rd/Fountain Street was closed off so traffic does not disrupt the hoses.

Station manager of fire investigation Michael Simms said: "There has been a large fire involving a scrapyard.

"Four appliances are on scene dealing with the incident.

"Machinery which was already on site is being used to move things around so we can make sure the fire is extinguished."
