Students at Woodhey High School were more than impressed opening their GCSE results this morning.
The Ramsbottom school was full of happy faces this morning as students came to collect their results after a turbulent five years.
After facing three lockdowns, and many more bank holidays due to the Queen’s death, and the King's Coronation, the students have shown resilience and worked hard to achieve their fantastic results.
Students gathered in the Frank Bennet Hall along with teachers, including headmaster Dean Watson.
Isobel Hall was the top performing student in the school and Ella Kirkham achieved the second best results, not far behind.
Isobel said: “I was expecting good grades, but these are higher than what I was expecting. I’m going to Holy Cross to study physics, maths and graphics.”
Ella is also off to Holy Cross to study English literature, history and biology.
Reflecting on her results, Isabelle Fagan said: “I’m really excited with them, slightly surprised but really happy.
“I got a 9 in physics somehow which I didn’t expect.”
Isabelle will be going to Holy Cross to do music, Spanish, and politics.
She added: “I’ve very much enjoyed my time here at Woodhey.”
Will Spruth said: “I’m pretty happy with my results to be honest.”
He was particularly happy with his English literature result, adding: “I must have scraped it because the exam and questions threw me.”
He will be going to Bury College to study carpentry and joinery.
Eddie Dickinson has received a two-year scholarship to go to Scarborough College for cricket. He has a bright future in the sport and has represented England.
He said: “I wasn’t expecting to pass chemistry and history, but I got 5s in both which is really good.
“At Scarborough I’ll be doing an international baccalaureate where I pick six subjects and based on the points I receive; I can get into university.”
He plans to pursue a career as a professional cricketer.
Polly Fordham achieved excellent results receiving five grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 6.
Headteacher Mr Watson said: “Each student’s grades is an individual story of resilience, hard work and a desire to be the best that they can be.
“The class of 2024 have blown us away throughout their studies in Key Stage 4 with their maturity and how they have tackled every challenge that has been thrown their way.
“This is reflected in another set of excellent individual and school results, and we are exceptionally proud of each and every one of them.
“On behalf of the school, I would like to wish the 'Class of 2024' the very best of luck for the future.”
