Our team of specialist nurses are pivotal to the Bury Hospice mission of meeting the care needs of local people with life-limiting illnesses.
Our nurses support patients and their families at every step of their palliative and end-of-life journeys, both in the hospice and within the community, delivering their expertise with sensitivity and understanding.
Whether using their expert knowledge of pain management and symptom control or supporting family members, our nurses are there to provide, care, hope and support.
We invite you to please support us by sponsoring a nurse. This involves pledging a regular monthly donation (from £10) to assist our nurses in providing the essential care and support that they so lovingly do.
This care and support takes many forms, ranging from a nurse giving a relaxing bubble bath to a patient or being with a family in their own home.
Nellie Savory, inpatient unit clinical lead at the hospice, had wanted to become a nurse since she was aged three, having watched her mum look after people, as a health care assistant, throughout her childhood.
She said: “I believe that being chosen to care for and look after people at the end of their life is and honour and privilege.
“Families become families again as we take over the role of carer.
"To be able to give this to people every day fills us with pride and gratitude.”
Our nurses offer comfort and emotional support when patients and families need it most.
People initially come into the hospice as strangers but soon become part of the the hospice family, having formed fond memories.
Our nurses play a key role in this by providing a personal touch – sometimes organising date nights for patients and their loved ones, or making everlasting hug t-shirts or beautiful hand castings as meaningful keepsakes for families to treasure, or even recently, arranging for a pet horse to visit a patient onsite!
No two days are ever the same for the nurses at the hospice.
By sponsoring a nurse, you are helping to cover the cost of specialist nursing care and training, therefore ensuring that the hospice can continue caring for those who need us for many years to come.
Everybody who chooses to sponsor a nurse receives a beautiful metal pin, symbolising your commitment to supporting your Bury community.
