An air ambulance was scrambled to Walmersley Golf Club yesterday evening (Wednesday) after a player suffered a medical episode on the course.
The Walmersley Men’s team were playing a match against Pike Fold when the incident occurred on the eleventh tee where a Pike Fold player is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

A message from the club said that members of the golf club managed to resuscitate and keep the player alive until the ambulance and air ambulance arrived.

It said: “Our defibrillator machine played a vital part in saving this gentlemen and it is critical our club maintains one.
“The speedy response of the emergency teams and especially the air ambulance, who delivered the doctors required to give him the best chance of survival, was fantastic.”

The match was postponed and will be replayed at a later date.
A spokesperson for Northwest Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 19.14 to a patient who required immediate medical assistance and responded with an ambulance, air ambulance, advanced paramedic, and solo responding paramedic.
"A man was taken to hospital for further treatment."
