Managers at Mill Gate Shopping Centre have conquered England's tallest mountain in aid of Bury Hospice.

Angela Tierney, the centre manager, and deputy manager Graham Bentley, accompanied by their partners, undertook the challenging 20-kilometre walk on July 27.

The trek, with its tough terrain featuring narrow ledges, vertical climbs, and arduous scrambling sections, culminated at the summit 3,209 feet (978 meters) above sea level.

The group completed the physically demanding feat, including the return journey, in nine hours and 23 minutes.

Ms Tierney said: "We wanted to set ourselves a real challenge and help support such an incredibly important and worthwhile cause.

"All four of us put in a lot of training and are absolutely delighted we managed to exceed our original £1,000 fundraising target."

Since opening in 1991, Bury Hospice has supplied crucial care and help to thousands of residents and now offers palliative and end-of-life care to hundreds of individuals and their families.

With annual running costs of £3.5million, the hospice relies on community fundraising efforts like the aforementioned climb, with 85 per cent of its funding sourced from donations.

Nina Camplin, corporate fundraiser at Bury Hospice, said: "Angela and Graham are tremendous supporters of Bury Hospice, taking time out of their busy lives to raise much-needed funds by climbing the tallest mountain in England.

"Their dedication is inspiring and makes a real difference to the lives of those we care for."

In Bury town centre, Mill Gate Shopping Centre spans more than 450,000 square feet and houses in excess of 120 shops and retail outlets, incorporating both leading stores and local businesses.

The centre continues to receive spirited support from its management crew.
